Garden Hat Seattle, WA 2006 |
|
This temporary installation occurred at the historic Hat ‘n’ Boots, in Georgetown’s Oxbow Park. Haddad|Drugan led community volunteers to cover Seattle’s largest and most beloved cowboy hat with a veil of live carnations, laurel, and sunflowers. The installation was carried out in conjunction with the Georgetown Art & Garden Walk. In addition to being a neighborhood celebration, the fantastic novelty of the “Garden Hat” brought awareness to ongoing fundraising efforts to restore this historic landmark. The event received coverage by newspaper, radio, and television news. The flowers and greenery were up for three weeks, during which time they transformed to brown. The art was sponsored by the Georgetown Community Council and funded through a 4Culture Special Projects Grant and a donation from Jones & Jones Architects and Landscape Architects. Brogan Thomsen provided contractor services using equipment donated by United Rentals. |
